I am a qualified Driving Instructor certified by the Traffic Police and have more than 40 years of teaching experience; 8 years at Singapore Safety Driving Centre and 16 years at Bukit Batok Driving Centre.
Through my years of being a professional driving instructor, I am able to identify the common mistakes made by learners as well as what the Traffic Police is looking out for during driving test. ReplyDeleteI really appreciate Mr Lum’s teaching style (i.e abit naggy and fierce haha) , even though I was abit discouraged on the first lesson haha. But the fact that he tells you where your mistakes are, it’s more helpful to know that and correct the bad habits in driving than to continually not improve. He also tailors the lesson according to my learning speed and provides easy guides for me to follow in parking, circuit etc In overall. I will recommend Mr Lum to my friends who are still learning driving as he is a very frank and friendly uncle who does an excellent job at guiding his trainees not to make the common mistakes based on his experience in teaching driving all these years :)
Started my lesson end of Dec on 2018. Today i took my Traffic Police Test and i managed to pass it despite being very nervous at first. Although he might look quite stern, Mr Lum is actually a nice guy who will help you 100% even if at times u get lost or making silly mistakes. Teaching wise is also very good, you can understand pretty well and times he is willing to repeat just to get it in our head. Glad that i was recommended to go under his lesson, else i am not sure whether can i get through any practical lessons with other instructors. Big thumbs up to you Mr Lum and i hope to see you soon. :-)
ReplyDeleteI started lesson at the beginning of January 2019. Today, February 22 2019, I passed my TP test. Initially, I thought Mr Lum is the type that will scold you for no reason😁😁. Strict of course but as lesson goes by, he always will spot your mistakes which is a good thing. You may not be a perfect driver/learner but a better driver/learner as lessons goes by. As for me, Mr Lum is the best driving instructor😁. Thank you Mr Lum, I wish you good health and see you on the road😁😁
ReplyDeleteThe best there is. He nags for a reason. To drill you to do better. Tells you where your mistakes are and how to rectified them. With his guidance, i managed to passed on my 1st try. WITH ONLY 4 LESSONS in total. Will recommend him to everyone i know. 10/10.
ReplyDeleteI started my lessons with Mr Lim on the 18th Nov 2018. On the 4th March 2019 I had passed my driving lesson. Mr Lim is very patient, boost your confident when you’re feeling like crap. Always ask you to relax and don’t tends up which is really helpful because when you tends up you tend to focus on one thing and negated others. As I’m working I’m only able to learn on the weekend and Mr Lim are able to comply with my schedule. He might be abit fierce only when you make mistake but mostly he’s very nice! Mr Lim speak Chinese & English fluently. Highly recommend Mr Lim to be your instructor. He will never give up on any student 👍🏻😄

I took just 2 Lessons with him and he told me I could take TP even though I felt I needed more practice, the reason is, he knows when youre ready and told me to be more confident. ReplyDeleteLook no further if you are planning to get your class 3A driving license asap! Mr LUM has a very flexible schedule and offers cheaper rates as compared to other class 3A instructors outside. It took me only 4months-ish despite long breaks between each driving lessons because I learn a lot every lesson. He is very experienced and can easily point mistakes for you to learn during lesson. Remember his teachings and relax, i assure you will pass your tp and get your driving license asap!

Today (22may) i took my tp test and i managed to pass eventho i was so nervous i messed up during warmup. i really appreciate mr lum's teaching methods and it helped me a lot. Mr Lum is a nice guy and quite strict but its really helpful so that you will learn your mistakes. Glad that my friend recommended me to learn under him. ReplyDeleteI started my lessons on March 2019 and passed my traffic police test on May 2019. I only spent a total of 10.5 hours learning to drive. Mr Lum teaches me to be comfortable when driving and anticipate. I think that it is the most important part of driving because driving outside is never going to be the same. Even though he is quite fierce sometimes, but it helps me to learn and improve from my mistakes. The guides and pointers he gives inside the circuit is very helpful and as long as it is followed, there will be no problem. It also helped me through my TP test because the guides are all easy to follow. Overall he is a really good instructor who matches the speed of your progress. Recommended!

ReplyDeleteMr. Lum has a rather different yet flexible method of teaching learner drivers. Lessons were centered around the rationale of safe, relaxed, and comfortable driving. Instructions were easy to understand (i.e. not technical) and feedback was always constructive.

Mr Lum is a really patient instructor who is able to spot common mistakes that TP looks out for during driving test. His rates are relatively affordable and I would recommend him to any of my friends who are looking for a dedicated and professional instructor!

ReplyDeleteMr Lum is a patient and professional instructor. Although he is strict at times, he make sure to learn from your mistakes so that you will not make them again. He knows all the tips and tricks for you to easily pass your test. Also. he will be able to pinpoint your specific mistakes and correct you directly, specific to your needs. This is way better than school teaching where the instructor might change. I had no prior driving experience and after learning from him, in just 9 lessons, I managed to pass my TP test in just one try. Think about the costs you would save as compared to school with minimally 20+ lessons.

ReplyDeletePassed my TP test on my first try. Mr Lum is a very patient and naggy instructor most of the time. But trust me, all those naggy moments will be worth it at the end. He will nag at you if you do even the smallest mistake. I recommend you learn under him if you want to pass your TP with just only 6 practices in two months. He will see your skills and he will tell you whenever you are ready. He knows whats best for his student. So trust me in this. He is very good instructor and very professional.

Mr lum is a patient but naggy instructor.I remembered the first few lessons with him that I always check out on the car instead of the road. He constantly tell me to focus around just like how I ride a bike and my driving techniques improve dramatically. Although I pass it on the second try, I've managed to complete my driving in 3-5months despite failing the first test. Very professional instructor if you want to learn driving

I enrolled under Mr Lum through a recommendation of a friend in 2019. Looks may deceiving, indeed at first impression Mr Lum might come off as austere. However, after a few lessons you will personally see and know that Mr Lum is a practical and reasonable instructor. He will not sugar coat when learning and will guide and correct you whenever necessary. If you may find yourself as a nervous individual like me, Mr Lum will provide you with assurances. He is very professional and will provide you with the best advices. If he knows and sees that you are capable of passing your TP test he will not waste time and recommend you to take it. I highly recommend Mr Lum as an instructor. If you want to maximise your learning and passing of your license always listen to Mr Lum and trust him. What you might see with your eyes is right but your instructor knows it best.
ReplyDeleteMr Lum is actually a very nice and patient instructor although he seems very scary at first. He constantly reminded me of my mistakes and a few days before my TP test, I made a lot of mistakes at the circuit but I think he could tell that I was very worried about it and instead of scolding me, he told me to calm down and treat it as practice and not to fret over it. On the day of my TP test, we went through the circuit and he reminded me of the pointers and told me to keep calm. I enrolled in end june and passed today (12th nov).

ReplyDeletePass my test on first time. Mr. Lum teaches you practical lesson necessary to pass the test, as he know how the test is conducted. Overall had 10 sessions in 4 months with him and after thr 5th we aim for the test. Just be patient on what he said. He wants to make you better.

He would often correct our mistakes and constantly reminded me about what to look out for when I'm on the road and in circuit. During the test day, I was very nervous but he told me to just stay calm and follow what he has taught and everything wld be okay! Although i took around 16 lessons and they were quite spread out due to school and work, I managed to pass on 24Jan on my 2nd try. Thank you Mr Lum! (:

ReplyDeletePrior to learning from Mr Lum, I had actually taken lesson from the Woodlands Driving School (The office at the Admiralty Mrt Bridge). I just want to say that the learning and teaching is like heaven and earth. I had no improvements for several lesson while learning from the WDS. But when I learnt from Mr Lum, i can see myself improving day by day under his guidance and teaching. Like all previous comment, Mr Lum may seem fierce and agitated while teaching but at of end day he is not angry at you or anything and most of the time he will give some encouragement as well.

The 10 months is due to school, work and alot of other various reason, I believe other people can pass at much faster rate. Last but not least, thank you Mr Lum!

Although he maybe naggy and fierce at times, he want you to remember all the mistake u make so as to not repeat it. Alrhough those naggy may cause stress while learning, trust me its good as during the test i did not feel any stress at all. Passed on my first try. Passed with around 10 lessons and I can say Mr Lum really teaches you to be 'road smart' and confident in driving. Highly experienced, he is able to point out your critical mistakes very easily, explain them to you in simple terms and correct them. Highly recommended instructor for anyone learning to drive.
Mr Lum have been very patience in guiding me. Very understanding and supportive. Constantly giving me pointers and always told me to believe in myself. His timings and dates are quite flexible. Overall, i really enjoy my driving lesson with him and would definitely recommend my friends and others to engage him as your driving instructor!
ReplyDeleteMr Lum helped me, someone who up until the test was a nervous wreck( even mounting the curb during warmup), pass the test on my first try. He is extremely patient and helpful as his methods really encourage proper driving EQ and IQ. He emphasises heavily on being confident and natural, which really aided me in overcoming the dreaded final test, despite the long CB period in which I did not drive at all.

ReplyDeleteMr Lum is a very patience and understanding instructor even though he might scold you during his lesson but at the end of the day he will be gentle with you and he will tell you your mistakes. I have failed the first time for being nervous and mr lum never failed to encourage me to do better and i managed and finally passed on my second time. His parking method is definitely easy as what you may think and he will be always supporting you. Mr Lum is best instructor you should really go for and his car may seem BIG but driving his car was quite enjoyable! THANKYOU MR LUM! ^^

ReplyDeleteHi, I would like to give my great appreciation to Mr Lum for preparing me well for my TP. After 6 lessons, told me to go prep for simulator then its all revision until TP date. Passed on 1st attempt.. All the tips and advises really prepared me well. He look fierce but very patient and teaches you at your pace.. the naggging is the best cause it will make u remember.. hahaha.. i highly recommend Mr Lum to all who is considering to go private.. i will forever remember Mr Lum as my instructor who paved the way to my 3A license!! Quite strict i must say but he leaves you with excellent driving tips and will always prompt your mistakes and corrects you on the spot. Despite getting a kanchiong student, he has always been patient and makes sure that i stop repeating unnecessary mistakes. Highly recommended to learn from him. From Sep 2020 to jan 2021. One time pass, was introduced by a friend who also did take long and pass on the first try. MR Lum may seem strict and fierce but he is encouraging and patient. He ensures that you understand before moving on, when I first did a u turn he let me try a few more times so that I can be more confident. What I appreciate most is that before and after lessons he will ask if we have anytime to clarify. Highly recommended to anyone looking for an instructor.

ReplyDeletehighly recommend mr lum as his feedbacks are really constructive and there’s no unnecessary scoldings unlike the stereotype of driving instructors. in fact, he is really nice and always tries to lighten the mood to not make you nervous. his teaching style and remarks makes driving very natural and easy. very good instructor as he accommodates to focus on your weak points. i was more nervous for circuit but ended up with 0 demerit points for it as his methods are really good if you follow well. honestly feels like one of the best driving instructor ^^

ReplyDeleteA total of 10 lessons and passed on 2nd try. He is very patient and encouraging. I failed the first time because I was to nervous, i over think things and was just too panicky. However he continued to encourage me, i felt so much more ready for the 2nd one and managed to pass! Phew! Thank you Mr Lum!
He is pretty constructive, ask questions and gives useful feedback! 100% recommend!
Started since Oct with a total of 13 classes and managed to pass on my first test! Mr Lum may be naggy and strict at times, but its really for own good. His techniques are really useful which helped build my confidence in driving. He is also encouraging and points out on mistakes to take note in TP. No regrets learning from Mr Lum!!

ReplyDeleteMr.Lum is a very experienced instructor.I got a lots of driving tips during my lessons (make a correct turning,U turn n esp parallel parking!). He will always remind me that I can drive. I just need to be more comfortable to myself and look around, since the real test he said is when you drive on the road by yourself and keep everyone safe.Thank You Mr.Lum!

ReplyDeleteA very patient instructor who always provides me with valuable tips on how to pass the TP test. Despite making mistakes on the road, he will correct me on the spot and made sure I understood my mistakes. In circuit, use his tips and you will 100% score well. I managed to get 0 demerit points in the circuit! 😆 He did not shout or scold me at all during lessons.
Highly recommended! Passed on my 2nd try. Just do not be nervous during the test and you will do well.

ReplyDeleteAt first he seemed strict and non-friendly but actually a very chatty and a caring instructor. Mr Lum is very observant, he was able to spot my fears and weakness within one lesson. So glad that I chose him as my instructor, very straight forward, honest and VERY patient. He advises and teaches well, I admire his teaching methods for parking especially.
Passed my TP 2 months ago, and never thought I'd say this but I'm always confident on the road & when it comes to parking too, all thanks to Mr Lum!

Mr Lum tips are really useful and make you learn as he doesn't sugarcoat his words which really help me though it might give you extra pressure during driving which I feel is necessary for one to experience to prepare for the TP test. When I first started I was a horrible driver, zero intuition, but with Mr Lum’s strict teaching and useful tips, my driving has improved tremendously. He provides very practical advice for driving on the road, and very useful tips that will ensure you pass circuit with no issues. He spotted my mistakes very early on, and helped me correct them so that I become more confident. Although he might be strict, he does it so that I become a better, safer driver. The best thing about him is that after one lesson, he will always give you feedback on your mistakes and he does not sugarcoat it. Personally for me, it's the best way to learn as I can remind myself not to do the same thing again. Mr Lum also reminds you to be more confident in your driving, which is very reassuring for me.

Mr Lum is a very experienced and yet, a very strict driving instructor. He provide great guidance and teaches you the right techniques. He also gave feedbacks after every lessons and correct our mistakes accordingly. I have a very packed working schedule however, even though he is also packed with lessons, he try to accommodate and make time for me so I can make it for lessons/circuit. Pass on my first try. ReplyDeleteI just want to say Mr Lum have been such an amazing instructor. I failed my TP previously solely because it was my mistake but he has never given up on me. I have a very busy schedule but Mr Lum always try his best to accommodate to my schedule. Even though he nags all the time but everything he nags make sense and it’s only to make you a better driver. All he ever wants is to make sure everyone pass their TP test. And something very good about him, he will always help you calm down before your TP and remind you of the important things you need to know before you take your actual test. He won’t take your money or make you go for extra lessons if he knows you can take TP already. He is strict but that’s for your own good. Highly recommend.

ReplyDeleteBefore I choose Mr Lum as my private driving instructor, I choose another company (Golden horse driving centre) and Mr Lim Khim Peow was my instructor. His website testimony do not fit what i expect at all. To cut short, he is a worse instructor I met. I ended my 5 lessons with Mr Lim, and thankfully I met Mr Lum's colleague, and he asked me to contact Mr Lum.
ReplyDeleteMr Lum is strict, but he is very observant and he is very professional. He can spot our driving mistakes, and he will tell us to change the way of our mistakes driving. Not even that, Mr Lum will give us tips in the circuit, and as long as we follow his tips, I ensure you that you will get your license in your first TP. I was struck in parking and my parking skill was very bad at first, but after my 7 lessons of learning parking with Mr Lum, now i have no problem in my parking.
Last and not least, Mr Lum is a honest instructor. He will not delay your driving lesson, if he says that you need more road driving or circuit lesson, he meant it, not because he wanna to earn your extra money. He just wanna us to drive with confidence and drive safe outside, and pass our TP in our first attempt.
Highly recommended instructor.

ReplyDeleteMr Lum is a no nonsense and honest instructor that corrects your mistakes on the spot and does not hesitate to advice you on your wrongdoings. Though he he strict, it is a very good thing as he is consistent and thorough in his teachings. I took a total of less than 10 lessons with him and passed on my first try. Believe that Mr Lum is honest and does not cheat your money and he will tell you when you are ready. Highly recommended Ed driving instructor that is not out to cheat your money. Bear in mind he is in high demand and he has pretty high passing rates too so you know he is a quality instructor. I sincerely thank Mr Lum for his professional guidance!!!

ReplyDeleteMr Lum is a great instructor even though he is very strict his guidelines are very clear and easy to other if you follow his guidelines you will a 100% pass your circuit as for on the road he will tell u to be comfortable in the car like walking at that pavement which made it much easier and more relaxing to drive and it also makes u a safer driver. Not only have I passed my driving test, but I also gained a better understanding in controlling the car and learning road rules. Having gone through other instructors, Mr Lum is the only one that provides me good feedback and tips, if not for him I would not have passed my test on the first try. ReplyDeleteNotes: I managed to pass my Class 3A practical test in one go, all of which is only possible because of Mr Lum's patient teaching even though I may not be the best student/driver.
Mr Lum, my first and only driving instructor that was recommended by my friend who enrolled under him and passed with flying colors has led me to enroll under him too. He is a caring instructor that goes that extra mile to make sure you are safe on the road before proceeding with the many stages in driving. he also gives old bird tips that school or others don't teach on driving and made me more comfortable driving on the road after a few sessions with him although I was very nervous during the first few sessions.
ReplyDeleteIt took me 2 tries to pass the TP and failing the 1st TP was solely on my nervousness during the TP. So fret not if you think about enrolling under Mr Lum because you should! He is for sure not condescending and harsh like other instructors I've heard that will bash you down during lessons.

Enjoyed my total of 6 lessons with him and I passed my TP on my first try. I cannot express my appreciation enough. Mr Lum's strength is definitely his circuit guidelines. He will explain every single techniques of all the obstacles in the circuit. He is very very patient, he never raised his voice and was not even stern at all. I then took another 2 revisions of circuit and road, and I passed my TP on 10 Aug 2022 - All thanks to him! He speaks good English and gives clear guidance. Previously, I was a manual car learner. I lost my confident since it has been awhile since the COVID break. Decided to swap over for an auto after COVID break. I took my (auto) driving test for the first time with Mr. Lum. I passed! Mr Lum is very firm but he knows what he is doing. It does train you to not panic if you make a mistake whilst driving. Very glad to have utilized his services! Highly recommended. P.S: his new Honda Jazz is superb to drive!

ReplyDeleteNot only does he points out mistakes accurately, he provides the correct fix for it. Typically, most of my peers fear parking as it takes skill. But Mr Lum has his techniques and it works, I highly advice to fully trust the things he says and his method of teaching.

Mr Lum is very patient and kind. He can be quite stern at times as he wants the best out of me. It took me only 5 months-ish despite long breaks between each driving lessons because i learn a lot every lesson. Constantly reminding me to "Relax, act natural. Drive naturally as how you ride your motorcycle." as I tend to tense up while driving.
ReplyDeleteMr. Lum's advice is incredibly helpful and helps you learn because he isn't afraid to say it like it is. However, this could put you under more pressure while driving, which I believe is vital to experience in order to get ready for the TP test. I enjoyed my lessons with Mr. Lum and would heartily recommend him as long as you heed his advice in the circuit and exhibit self-assurance on the road.

ReplyDeleteNow, there’s no other option to go other than Maroubra Driving School. Driving teachers are just human. Initially, no person might appear ideal for the task. However, we would recommend going into this, considering the type of people you gel with and how finding out designs help you.

Mr Lum is a strict but reasonable and professional instructor who is very thorough and precise with his instructions. He's also very straightforward and doesn't ramble unnecessarily; every lesson was very efficient. Mr Lum has helped me to realise that driving is actually very easy and nothing to be scared of; I passed my TP test first try with less than 2 months of lessons. Mr Lum is a strict instructor, but his comments are all constructive and have the intentions to let you know that driving isn't a thing to be scared of. Every lessons he keeps reminding me to relax, and that driving is like riding a bicycle, is more about feeling yourself drive around and not focusing too much on the car. It took me 3 attempts to pass but it was only due to me being too nervous in the circuit, even though every warm up/lesson I tend to do mostly okay in the circuit.

Mr Lum is a very strict & yet patient instructor, he'll point out your week points and focus on it to make you improve, although he is tough with his words he only wants to teach you well so you can be on the road safe and sound. I had an excellent experience with Mr Lum as my driving instructor. He is a very professional instructor who can be strict at times, but always in a constructive and helpful way. I was a complete beginner when it came to driving, and he is knowledgeable and extremely helpful throughout my lessons, taking the time to understand my strengths and weaknesses and tailoring the lessons to suit my needs. Note that Mr Lum is a popular instructor, which means that scheduling lessons with him can be tough. It took me 10 months to get my license in 1 try. But the wait is definitely worth it. Overall, I would highly recommend Mr Lum to anyone looking for a skilled, professional, and effective driving instructor!

If I had to do it all over again, Mr Lum is an obvious choice. My 1st instructor was recommended, one lesson and I changed. 2nd instructor was also recommended, after failing test twice,
ReplyDeleteI took the risk to change as my final Theory, PDL, and etc were expiring in 4 .months time. It's either the devil or the deep blue sea ... I searched the net and found my Savior. Finally managed to convince Mr Lum to take me in as a student as his slots were full. Looking for a decent PDI was a challenge as even the lousy ones were fully booked. :-) Couple of lessons later I realized that me failing the test twice was deliberated. It was as clear as day.

For having your heart at the right place, for your high standards of professionalism, your unique style of teaching that made driving a car a breeze. 2 months with you was the best L- plate experience I had. Mr Lum have been a patient and good driving teacher. He taught me to be more confident in my driving and also to relax more during driving. ReplyDeleteMr Lum is a patient and good driving instructor. Before Mr Lum, I was with another PDI instructor and previously failed a TP. That entire experience made me lose my confidence, and stopped driving for a few years.
ReplyDeleteAfter chancing upon Mr Lum's various commendable recommendation from various online sites and his blogspot, I decided to take a leap of faith and engage Mr Lum as my new PDI from May. During my lessons with him, he constantly encouraged me to be confident and continue practicing areas that I am visibly weaker in. He is very knowledgeable but also patient in explaining my mistakes and ensuring I do better.
I have just passed my TP on 23Aug and would like to express my deepest thanks to Mr Lum - This would not be possible without your guidance!
I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a 3A PDI!

ReplyDeleteI started taking classes with Mr Lum on 16 May 2023 and today 12 September 2023, I passed my traffic police practical exam on my first try!
In a short span of 4 months, I managed to get my license! And this would definitely not be possible without Mr Lum.
Mr Lum is a very strict and detailed instructor. Mr Lum is strict so that we can learn the correct techniques properly. And all he does is for the students' benefits. Mr Lum is very experienced as a driving instructor. He knows what to look out for and the common mistakes that students will make. He make sure that he keeps drilling on the important techniques for safe driving.
Mr Lum is patient although he's a man of few words but he's very encouraging.
I would definitely recommend everyone that's interested to take up driving to go with him.

Mr. Lum is an excellent private driving instructor, teaches very well. Managed to pass my test on my second try in 6 months. Highly recommend to anyone getting license at ssdc.

He is super patient and he remembers your weaknesses and will help you with it every lesson. He might be scary and naggy at times, but it's really all for your own good and I've learnt a lot under him.

ReplyDeleteI first chanced upon Mr Lum on this very website and decided to try my luck. He took me under his wings despite the tight schedule due to my internship. He is someone that cares about the very minute details and would not hesitate to correct you on the spot. Yes, he might be naggy at times, but at the end of the day, would you rather have a instructor that corrects your mistakes on the spot or someone that keep quiet all the time?
I highly recommend Mr Lum to anyone getting their 3A license at SSDC. Once again, thank you Mr Lum!
I started my learning mid may in 2023 and after 8 months, just passed on my first try on 8th Jan. Thank you mr lum for helping me through this. Mr lum is strict and straightforward but he points out exactly what you do wrong and as long as you follow his pointers exactly, you will do well!
ReplyDeleteI started on 28th Aug 2023, had about 9 sessions in total & passed on 1st attempt on 17th Jan 2024! Test date was quite far away. I was very tensed and worried about driving/banging the car (I didn't realise that was my issue) on the first few lessons & therefore made lots of mistakes. Mr Lum was able to pinpoint this problem of mine & guided me accordingly to help me overcome it. Ever since the first few lessons I really improved my confidence level. Mr Lum is strict & straightforward, just follow exactly what he teach & be rest assured you'll be in good hands. I really like his teaching style, picks at the problem straight & always reminds me until it gets into my head! Thank you so much!

Really thankful for Mr Lum's guidance and correction whenever I make mistakes on the road or in the circuit. ReplyDeleteStarted my first lesson on the 25th of Sept 2023 and passed my 1st TP on the 19th of Feb 2024, with only 10 points! Mr Lum may be strict and fierce at times, but he is overall a good instructor; he gives good advices, pin point the mistakes made and is very efficient. My learning process has been smooth and enjoyable! I have recommended him to a few of my friends, and to anyone reading this, if you are looking for a 3A instructor, you should really get Mr Lum! :)

He doesn`t waste your time during practical lessons because he will give you specific guidelines/advices to follow to ensure safe and smooth driving. He might come off as strict and fierce but this is to ensure that you don`t make mistakes during the TP test. I passed TP test on the first try with 8 Demerit Points.

I passed my TP on 26 July 2024 under Mr Lum and here is my positive experience learning under him which would make me recommend him to anyone searching for a Class 3A PDI at Admiralty:
ReplyDelete1. He is reliable and punctual
He would always be on time for lessons and would not make any last minute changes to lesson timings or location. During lesson, he would not end early/start late or go for long toilet breaks.
2. He is very experienced
What he reinterates is exactly what the testers are looking for during the test and what he says is not as important is really not that important during the test hahah. The tips that he gives would always work if you follow what he says exactly, especially for circuit.
Even before you make a mistake, he would be able to anticipate it in advance and correct you before you drive dangerously too. His instructions are clear and easy to follow as well.
3. Booking a lesson slot is relatively easy
Despite his popularity, I was able to get lessons once a week or at least once every two weeks easily. All I had to do was to let him know the time and date I wanted and he would try to fit in a lesson, no need to camp for slots and feel stressed competing with many people for a slot :)
4. He is flexible and accommodates your schedule
I took a couple of months break a few times due to my personal schedule and whenever I wanted to go back to taking lessons after a long time, Mr Lum was always ready to take me in again :") He did not forget me after a few months and was commited to having me as his student until I passed my TP (heard some horror stories of other instructors dropping their students if they kept failing or took long breaks, but not Mr Lum!)
5. His car is very clean and easy to drive
Again, I heard some stories of other PDI's car being dirty or old but Mr Lum's car is always clean and well-maintained!
Overall, I am glad to have Mr Lum guiding me throughout my journey in obtaining my licence. Under his guidance, my journey was smooth-sailing and I thoroughly enjoyed learning under him. Thank you Mr Lum!

He was quick to correct my mistakes on the road and made me a more confident driver. His teaching style is one that encourages autonomy and initiative, which definitely improved my driving skill beyond the basic, methodical approach. During the follow-up lessons leading up to the test, I struggled a bit on the road due to a two-month break from lessons, with only four lessons remaining before the test. Despite being a little blur during this period, his guidance helped me regain my confidence. He even offered an additional lesson just days before the test, which made a real difference. ReplyDeleteI passed my driving test 25 November 2024 all thanks to Mr Lum. Mr Lum is a very good instructor. He is knowledgeable, clear and very concise in his teachings. On my very first practical lesson, he already ask me to drive on the main road. I was feeling anxious because I did not trust myself but he always reassure that there’s nothing to be afraid of.

He is like your cute uncle that nags at you if you forget what you learn or make a careless mistake. 😂 I tend to be very forgetful but he is very patient in explaining again. Although he might sigh at you if you constantly make the same careless mistakes (which i always make), I always thought it was very funny. His reactions and his nagging make the lesson really fun for me. (Sorry haha)
I am happy I passed but sad that I dont have any lesson to look forward to with Mr Lum. Once again, thank you for everything.

I passed my driving test on 2nd January 2025. Mr Lum is definitely the best driving instructor you can get. His patience and extremely good advice has helped me learn my mistakes as well as remain calm. I was a slow learner but Mr. Lum always remained patient without being too lenient. I definitely would not have passed without his help. Have full trust in his advice as he knows his car and his driving really well!

I would like to thank Mr Lum for his guidance throughout these 6 months. Today (3 Jan 2025), I have passed my driving test on my first attempt! Mr Lum's lessons are precise and helpful as he is able to pin point mistakes on the spot. He is an experienced instructor with good intentions even though he may be strict at times. His way of teaching has allowed me to learn effectively and make lesser mistakes progressively in each lesson. He would also give quality feedback at the end of each lesson, which I think is very useful as well. Would recommend Mr Lum to anyone who is looking for a driving instructor.

During lessons, he maintains polite decorum and explains with the intent to make driving easier for the student. He is very helpful in providing tips and will pay close attention to each student's driving style to identify areas of improvements. It was really an honour to have found and gotten him as my driving instructor. I went into lessons being nervous about parallel parking as people always mark it as a high level difficulty manoeuvre, however after his teachings, it has become something that is so much easier to do!
You will really learn very effective methods and guidelines that are quick to pick up. I was really nervous during my first test and a very careless mistake cost me to fail, i felt demoralised and bad that I was able to fail under his wings! But he continued to be patient with me and 4 lessons later I passed on my second attempt!
Just don’t be nervous and take all his guidance to heart and you will definitely succeed!! Thank you Mr Lum! You’re really the best instructor anyone could ask for!
I passed my 1st TP today with the guidance of Mr Lum. Felt really satisfied with his teaching even though there's few hiccups along the way. A patient instructor and abit naggy (for your own good) Within 6 months I managed to complete everything. ReplyDeleteHis lessons and advise were apt during my TP test. Mr Lum is able to spot your weakness and blind spot during lesson. As a result, he will help you to get rid of that and make you more confident.
Have faith in him. Thats all I can say. His experience is so vast that his lesson were so fruitful. You may find him strict but one the day of your TP vehicle warm up, he is a changed person. He was very encouraging and very smily. Totally lift up the stressful atmosphere.

ReplyDeleteHe is very patience and gives his all in ensuring you learn the right thing even if you repeat the same mistakes. Instead of scolding me, he actually pointed out what are the consequences of making the mistakes in future/during TP test.
At the end of every lessons, he will give a recap on your driving and advise on your weakness and give positive words of encouragement which helps to lift up your confidence as well.
All in all, I felt very thankful that I managed to get him as my instructor and I passed my TP in first try!
